Changing the Cruising Game – Virgin Voyages

Sir Richard Branson has done it again by entering the cruise line industry with his beautiful new ship, The Scarlett Lady. She will be sailing 4, 5, and 7-day trips from Miami to the Caribbean starting April 2020, carrying 2,770 18 and older guests (a.k.a. “Sailors”,) plus 1,160 crew.  Although he’s never been on a cruise ship, Branson knew he wanted to do things different in the cruise industry since he was 27. To quote Branson “Like Virgin Atlantic, it will be a first-class product at a business class price.”

For starters, cabins have a cool vibe, each with its own tablet that you can order room service, make dinner reservations, or dim the mood lighting. Each cabin also has the latest amenities including rain showers and 43″- 4K flat-screen HDTVs. There are 20 dining options all using the freshest ingredients. Included in the price are WIFI, gratuities, fresh pressed coffee, tea, plus water and sparkling water stations. Shore excursions and alcoholic beverages are an additional cost. One other unique difference is the Scarlett Lady will be captained by a woman, the first Canadian woman in history to captain a ship for a major cruise line. Because the ship is new it is environmentally friendly, including the use of single-use plastics are not allowed.  Branson also recently acquired the train system in South Florida. Currently the line travels from near the Port of Miami to where it stops in Palm Beach. Branson’s plan is feed his cruise ships by extending the tracks to Orlando, which is ranked the #1 summer destination determined by a recent AAA survey – brilliant!

A four-night cruise from Miami, Key West, and Virgin Voyages private island in Bimini are as low as $1,400 for two. Or join Sir Branson for his birthday bash four-night sailing, July 15, 2020, for as low as $2,950.
